I am looking now at scorpion gear, dunno if he has best PvP gear or not but he is no1 PvP dummy score. I think he is missing just as many stats, if not more than vimer.

actually barbs have 8 "fixed" slots with legendary or set items, wds seems to have around 9, but the amount of % of perfection on vimers fixed slots seems better than what scorpion has.

in a lot of situations barbs have to also use lacunis.  Also vile wards like mine have ehp similar to top crafted ones, plus It's based on mitigation rather than pure hp and they have life regen. weapon and amulet are the biggest drawbacks in building a decent but not prohibitively expensive barb.

and what does budget have to do with crafted?
you say barbs should get better gear but already barb budget pieces have more % of perfection stats than other classes high budget ( not top ) pieces, for the reasons mentioned before.

the class imbalance of barbs is that they rely on ehp gear and ehp gear is less expensive when it's not absolute best in slot, like vimer has.

"if you guys win vs better geared players like you all the time" - define better geared? on amount of gold spent? that means nothing, the only way you can compare is how close player X is to the best player in his class. If I have 85-90% of the stats of the top player of my class it means i am better geared than another player that has 80% of the stats compared to the best of his class, does is matter i spent 2 bil and he spent 50bil? that's his problem.

That is the main argument vs barbs now, you look at nofear and see he has gear worth 10 times less than the opponents he 5-0 but his gear is probably closer % wise to that of the top geared barbs, because that's how the market is now, and he probably has more experience.

using the right skills can make a very big impact - just consider that nerves of steel can add 25-30% ehp, warcry a lot more, a 15-20% less ehp in gear quickly becomes irrelevant, the same with marauder rage, if a barb can spec marauder instead let's say charge because he is more skilled and can catch without it, basically it doesnt matter that another "top" player has 30% more dps on gear.

all classes rely on expensive dps-pve gear (on most slots) that everybody looks for on ah, barbs rely on ehp-pvp gear and only the absolute best are worth billions, because the pvp player base is much smaller. if the top barb spenders really started pvp than the prices would probably go up and my gear would be worth more, but does it really matter the gold value?

that's why the only valid rules are the ones made by the very best players in the class, not just gear wise but also skill wise.

dunno if you, euro, still have your pvp gear but if you can fight vs vimer until it's close to 50-50 or at least 40-60 than that is the point where the match-up is balanced.

each class should designate their top 2 players and do an invitational test league with 10 players where various rules and bans are tested.

actually i think scorpion is at vimer's level (gear wise), i wanna see that result.
U can't just balance for current players because new players can join during the competition, like scorpion did, if he would have enough games played he would probably be no1.
Vimer defeated insane in a very close game (I think insane told me it was 4-1 for him) because vimer just outgeared him, he is much closer to top barb gear than insane is to top wd gear.

other classes just don't have their best players here, or they didn't play enough games to reach the top.

barb vs wiz
most wizzards will agree that no wotb is the only needed rule, mokkal did take 3 games from vimer and he is not at the very top, the problem with wizzards is that they don't yet have enough experience and micro vs barbs, but there are wizzards, like stalker for example, that could destroy any barb easily if they had mokkal skills. Ximae also said he has balanced games vs vimer.

barb vs monk
nerfing barbs vs monks is weird, why? monks have the best burst in game and can 2 shot blue bell or sss any barb in game if they get lucky with crits, u want now them to 1 shot? also vs tempest rush, having threatening shout is mandatory for fury gain, is just like vs legacy dhs, without enough fury barbs could never catch a tempest rush monk.

barb vs dh
banning legacy natalya set makes no sense, it's actually the most skill dependent class and many legacy players don't have top non-legacy gear... Anyway even against non-legacy banning ravage rune is kinda lol, good dhs will be able to run and burst a good barb before he can even get in range to do 1 rend. Again, there aren't any top non-legacy dhs here, and the use of rf is probably not yet optimized vs barbs.
without rf, banning runes on wc, maybe also relentless, is more than needed, but vs rf with rockets and ballistics it makes no sense.
Wotb is used to counter a tanky static dh build, a good dh, even non-legacy, will not be caught with wotb. No mention here about camp mode being banned, and wotb is exactly used to counter that cheese, like we see in so many public games.

barb vs wd
if wd uses bats and haunt or bats and spirit barage he doesnt have the fire power to prevent a barb from running and regen until next wotb. on the other hand bats encourage that style of wotb and running for 1.45 because 2 stuns in a row means death, so i actually agree to bats banned, not because of damage but because of the fact that it encourages that boring game style from barbs.
The main difference is what wds do during barb wotb, I even killed scorpion once in wotb, he had 100k hp bats and barage, while i could never catch insane in d3cl. I tried what euro mentioned against various wds, ground stomp or threatening but still furious charge seems to be the best way, I would like to hear what vimer uses.

the main "problem" of barb gear, and why so many complain about barbs, is that getting 80-90% of the stats of vimer for example is not prohibitively expensive, but getting 80-90% of the stats of a top player in other classes is very expensive, because high dps gear is still more expensive than high ehp gear (not absolute top, but pretty close).

euro called nofear a "budget barb". For example, I am about the same gear level as devil, from what i see on dprogress, i have slightly more ehp because i have 7% vs elites on chest, so in dprogress numbers it would be something like 6.5M in full bt set (which is actually comparable to a 7.5-8M non bt set and litany, in dprogress numbers), while he has slighlty more dps, because of more cc, the critical hit being about the same.

I dont think that i spent more than 2bil on all my gear, although i have a lot of secondary pieces, maybe 3bil max. I guess i'm a budget barb too compared to other players? but would you call devil a budget barb? even though he probably spent a lot more he currently has about same stats as me, not the budget is important but how you spend it and also playing skills matter a lot. Nofear is probably more experienced than the "top" barbs that's why he still does well in less gear. For example i see katmp with tens of billions of gear, the spear alone i know for sure it was in the tens of billions range, and he still lost to players that nofear and me 5-0ed.

I'm sure the same can be applied to other pvp players, having good gear is not everything, and not a lot of players are at the top of pvp skills, that's why vimer is no1, he is best geared and probably most experienced pvp barb, no other player in d3cl is there yet.

a database with players divided by gear level is nice ( and I will surely use it ) but unfortunately PvP dummy score means almost nothing, at least for barbs.

1. it doesn't take into account the reduction vs elites
2. doesn't take into account damage vs elites
3. atk speed based damage is useless for barbs.
4. block value is highly overrated because of low incoming hit value taken into account.
5. life per second is not taken into account

Too many players in the top just try to optimize score without caring about real PvP, for ex, if I switch 4 items I jump from 2mil to 3mil score (~top 8 ) but my real dps drops, my real ehp drops, my survivability drops.

the real values which matter, imo, are ehp vs elites with and without dodge, and the value of the crit hit.

Dunno about other classes but I presume it's similar, not to mention resource management like disc, mana regen, apoc, spirit regen which play a huge role in pvp

And ofc there is the skill factor, that's why some kind of scoring system would be nice, so that everybody gets to see the results of top players competing against each other and identifying possible imbalances and new rules... which basically leads back to a league system.

and about the prizes, I'm sure that are lots of players that would be willing to donate 5-10 mils, at least, for a bigger and well spread prize pool.

if a newer player knows that, for example, if he wins 5 challenges he gets 5 mil or something, it could be enough incentive to make him active and play until he manages to get that number.

yeah, the real problem is the start of the league, where some kind of separation is needed.

also there should be an auto match-making system, for top players at least, forcing them to play each other every 3 days or so.

prizes as incentive are always welcome but the prizes should be spread in a way that everybody has a chance at something.

maybe top 4 but also top players from each class... if we have 4+ wds of insane level or more then others classes may not think they have chances at the top.

also maybe small prizes throughout the league.
like lower ranked players have a chance every few days to challenge a player in top 8 and if they win they get a small prize.

or random generated challenges non-ranked where the higher ranked player has a handicap based on how many more points he has, like playing without a gear slot...

dunno, there could be lots of stuff to make things more fun for all players.

any player that enters should have the feeling he has a chance to win something while also having fun, even if he loses 90% of games.

it shouldn't be necessarily hidden ranking, it could be 4 tiers (divisions) of players, the tiers could be hidden or not.

each player could challenge withing the same tier of players for the first week or so, after that tier 1 can be mixed with tier 2 and challenges based on the -/+ points threshold, so that the best players in tier 2 will be able to test their skills against tier 1 and the ranking should be normalized. The same with tier 3 and 4.

after 2 weeks the 2 remaining tiers will become one league and the lower players with big score will be able to prove if they actually deserve it.

maybe this way each player will have nice balanced duels and if he just stomps on the players from same tier he gets the chance to play against better opponents, but in a progressive way.

i know it's probably kinda complicated and more problems could arise, maybe others have better ideas of separating players, at least in the beginning of the league.

yeah, diabloprogress ehp and pvp dummy score mean nothing because they dont take into account reduce vs elites and dmg vs elites, which is pretty dumb.

vimer's shown ehp of 6.7 mil is actually more than those with 8.5-9 mil on the same site because of his reduce vs elites.

he is no14 pvp dummy, and he has bt set, which actually shows that is he best geared in EU atm. I think he is the only top player of his class currently in d3cl, maybe also SIN? as euro said, even insane is lower geared than blud or euro himself.

it's hard to balance around the players in the league because one class my have it's best and others not, but what if we nerf barbs further vs dh and then a top dh enters and rapes all barbs because they were over-nerfed? you all know barbs qq tears are the biggest in game  :)

yeah, maybe if dh uses rf allow barbs to use all skills and if dh doesn't use it, ban all runes on wc and also relentless maybe.

dunno what to say about barb vs wd, I wish vimer could tell us exactly how he did it. The game pretty much relies on what both players do during wotb. I tried what Euro suggested against wds with similar ehp, the best chance to kill them during wotb still seemed to be charge, but only if I could kill them in 2 crits or 2 crits and one non crit, which means dropping some ehp.

that's why probably vimer is the only one with good enough balanced gear to defeat insane.

on the other hand insane retired and he sells his gear. it all depends on what kind of players are in the league and if we want to balance around them or for the top players that exist in d3.

well, first of all the league system might need some fixing maybe.

a couple of ideas:

at the beginning of the league players should have a hidden rating based on previous results and gear and only games with players with similar rankings should be allowed.

no offense to anyone, but the beginning of the league seemed like a race to kill worse players before their score dropped and u don't get points from them.

after that, at least top players should be forced to play against each other every 3 days to determine a clear ranking, not based only on how many games u can find. because there can be situations where a top ranked player didn't even play against the other good players, or played only once while others played a lot more.

anyway, a playoff also should determine the no1 who may not be the one with most points, either elimination rounds or group based with top 8 followed by semifinals and finals.

my 2c :)

almost forgot, we need some stalemate rules too :)

the problem is, for whom do you balance here? do you balance for the existing d3cl players or for the potential best players in every class?

for example, if insane wasn't in the league the barb vs wd matchup would seem barb favored. the problem is that there aren't any top dhs here with enough dps to destroy any ehp barb, but they exist.

I tested vs Chen, who has a nice dh, probably not at the very top but pretty good overall, even with all skills allowed it was a balanced game, I only killed him in wotb but if he moved more he would have made it very easy for him.

I also saw good dhs in public games, that with correct skills and movement on the map would do very well vs barbs.

did u try with stun caltrops, or other stuns? because if u can have thrill and another stun in a row it can be very brutal.

u had a nice fun duel but at the very top I don't think it can be done, a top dps dh would just kill skorn barbs in one stun.

even in my tankiest setup, high dps dhs melt me, the only class that can do that faster are wds using bats ( which are banned here )

rapid fire already gave dhs a very good burst, further nerfing barbs is a bit absurd, when already many dhs agree that even warcry runes nerf is a bit outdated now.

Euronymous is mostly right saying that skills and experience can make a big difference and most players ( myself included ) don't have enough experience.

For example, I got a walkover vs rudzian but he insisted to play in order to see the possible outcome. In his PvP gear he did no damage and died in 2 skorn shots, in his dps gear he did some damage and died in 2 spear shots... he was kinda bm saying that without wotb I would have no chance etc...

BUT, it was mostly because of what he did during my wotb.
   Insane just circles a rock without hitting me for 15 sec, and with my usual build I couldn't get more than 3 hotas of which max 2 were crits.
  Rudzian ran pretty much in a straight line.. he even tried to kite... with haunt. Basically he gave me full fury again and made it easy for me to catch and 2 shot him with increased crit chance hota from full fury. He doesn't have enough dps, but if insane did that it would have been a much different result.

As Euro said, the problem is lack of top players to test with... if vs all wds I know charge worked I thought that this is the way, no need to test more :)

Another example is tank dh using rf and camp mode vs barbs... it may work in public games but u will not be able to kill a decent barb, barbs can just go skorn wotb, run, ip if necessary and run out, u can't prevent them from regen if they fail with first wotb and eventually u will die...

I bet in all match-ups there are small things or unused skills that can probably turn the result upside down, too bad the PvP scene is small, almost nobody streams and few people communicate builds.

depends on how much i can tank, vs 99% of wds i can still go at them even without wotb if they can't kill me in a few stuns, i can risk getting hexed, but vs insane for example if i get 2 hexes in a row i have to run and try to regen because a 3rd hex would probably kill me, which is also hard vs skilled wds that know how to control the center.

it's not really "kiting" for a long time is just running like a mad man and trying to hide until i regen some hp :P i heard mannercookie too referring to running as "kiting". Kiting is when u run a bit then hit the opponent without getting hit by him, taking advantage of faster movement speed and better attack range, what mannercookie does running from dhs or wds when he is about to die is just run-for-your-life-and-hope-you-live-until-next-ignore pain or pot :)

with the gear he has now on diabloprogress, vimer has about 15% more damage with crits, and a bit more crit chance, ehp wise it's maybe something close to 5-7% more, because i have 7% more vs elites ( ~200-240 vit equivalent) than he has which is not taken into account on diabloprogress, but the ehp is constructed differently, i like at least 700 dex he uses more "raw" ehp., which is better in match-ups where DoT skills are used, like vs wd too.

I will try all u mentioned and it sounds pretty good to me, that is the kind of communication of builds that players have to share :)

i got used to furious charge because i usually dont use wotb vs wds and charge gives a bit of protection from hex, if u charge, hota and run u can escape the hex shaman even by being close to it, and yes it helps vs wall but not many wds use it.

ground stomp also seems ok, but usually wd has spirit walk available and he will cast it as soon as i pop wotb, even more if i use stomp... and the cd is 12 seconds as oposed to 10 for charge, but at least it's sure stun, that might work pretty well.

the same for threatening shout, if he has spirit walk he will use it when he sees wotb, i have to pay atention and pop it after a finished spirit walk, but indeed this will help also for tanking in the rest of the time.

i will try it if i see insane again, or maybe u can suggest other similarly geared wds, the rest vs whom i played charge and even without wotb seemed to be enough.
